‘kay, so Castle Carlin probably isn’t named after the comedian, but to make up for that, it’s super cool. I especially love the great wall texture and Tudor section (not that half timbered additions on castle are uncommon, just that it’s well done). Landscaping’s pretty good, too.
Well built, Zimzø.

Here is something I think should be blogged. Mdrn~Mrvls’, who is usually a strong vehicle builder, now brings us this “Office Building and 30s Car”. Of course, it does have a well built vehicle in it.

This creation comes from a series of vehicles that Mdrn is building stretching from a fire engine to a dump truck.

Jordan (Sir Nadroj) wishes our favorite eccentric electrician, AC advocate, radio revolutionary, and Serbian savant a very merry 153rd.
Also note, this is at least the second time I’m writing about these two fellows here on this blog, both Tesla and Jordan, and hopefully not the last either!

This hæs got to be the lærgest LEGO work ever constructed by fellow blogger Peder Peter (who also displayed it at BrickWorld). Allegedly drawing an archaic etymology from the Old English for “Flat Field”, the fortress is aptly named. Additionally, the architecture is rather aesthetically pleasing and appears to be an attempt to emulate the Norman style that became popular in England after the year 1070 AD. The light gray curves and bends are beautifully fluid, but also note the Tudor style second floor and the wooden stables that break up the otherwise contiguous gray walls rather well.
Also, there’s viking-Aunt-May-archers!

BrickWorld 2009 was for the most part, a great success. The real highlight was the Micropolis, and the Space display, for me. Space has died ever since Brickfest ‘06, however, this year, Starfighters and SHIP’s ruled the half the tables of AMCP display. Castle was a little disappointing this year, but it was still cool since Peter brought along his castle. The vendors were expensive as usual. This year, there were not as many trains, which is a good thing and a bad thing for many people. All in all, a great convention with a staggering 556 attendees.

^That wasn’t even all of the SHIP’s. There were two more.

Now, all we have to do is start preparing for BrickWorld 2010. Next year, we have the whole hotel.

I really love this. Named after the hit swing-style tune, Sir Nadroj has delivered a gracefully rendered atmosphere fluently emphasizing Turkish architectural vernacular as well as a touch of cultural heritage with use of the Indian printed elements from the Orient Expedition product line. Although I slightly miss the ogee style arches so commonly associated with Byzantine design, I particularly fancy the fountain as both a realistically and aesthetically fitting facet to an overall beautiful scene (even despite the fact that Jordan has only built it and thrown it on flickr to boast the fact that he’s got his hands a certain piece earlier than most other people have. But hey, as a common follower of his work, that is something to which I have grown accustomed. This time he even admitted it. Ha!)

I love this. Not only because Warhammer is awesome, but also because Peter is awesome.
Let the pics speak for themselves!

Perhaps Peter Anderson (ShadowViking on Flickr) gets featured here too often, but this awesome viking-themed vignette, featuring a shadowy Champion of Loki wreathed in infernal flames was too impressive not to blog. Amazing work with the fire, and a fun backstory melding the mythology of the Vikings with LEGO’s Orc warriors.

Chris Pockster presents us with a wonderful bit of historical scenery depicting a piece of equipment called a magnifying transmitter in the Colorado Springs laboratory of the early 20th century electrician and inventor Nikola Tesla. A Serbian immigrant to the United States, Tesla founded modern electricity through the use of alternating current now fed into every modern household as well as being the first to transmit information over low electromagnetic frequency, or what he know today as radio. In his later years, he even began to work fantastic albeit impractical visions of globally wireless electricity, and even an anti-aircraft electric death-ray. As you can see, he was, quite clearly, much cooler than Thomas Alva Edison (who instead used AC to power the first electrocution chairs to prove its “danger” to the public). As the lesser recognized electrician of the two, it’s great that our friend Chris has built this as a well deserved, posthumous homage to a great man. Bravo.
